Summer Olympics Reading Comprehension Worksheets

April 29, 2025

Need engaging summer Olympics reading comprehension worksheets for your kids? These activities about the Hip Hop dance commonly called “breakdancing” is the solution!

For the first time ever, the Hip Hop dance, breaking, will be in the Olympics! This is an amazing opportunity to get your students reading about the dance and the Olympics during the summer and well into the school year!

If you’re unfamiliar with breaking (also called bboying or bgirling), check out the video below to learn more about it.

If you’re already familiar and want to dive into the Olympic news about it, check out the video below! It features some slick moves from top bboys and bgirls worldwide with my favorite bboy, Rox Rite, explaining the sport and artistic aspects of breaking and the rich culture and philosophy behind it.

Both videos work great as ELA activities and for keeping students engaged during the summer and in the new school year.

One hot take about breaking in the Olympics is how to judge this street dance.

And an even better question is whether breaking is a sport or an art. What do you think?

Below is an awesome video that addresses all of this from the legendary bboy Crumbs. Watch as he shares his knowledge on the topic with thought-provoking examples!

I’ll be using this video with my students for ELA lessons this summer and in the new school year.

This video is a great high-interest topic for your students to practice description and compare and contrast skills to decide which category the dance falls into – sport or art. It also works great for context clues skills as the video introduces Hip Hop terms for your students to define.
