Free Context Clues Worksheets Using Rap Song

Context clues worksheets can be boring at times. How about using a fun topic like the history of Hip Hop and rap music to keep your students engaged while teaching the skill?

Using context clues in a passage couldn’t be easier with this activity which is ideal for 5th – 7th-grade students, especially those that are fans of Hip Hop and rap music.

Begin by playing the song to build context around the content-vocabulary words in the song lyrics that they will be defining. Students will follow along with the song using the video’s subtitles or with the song lyrics printout.

Next, have students read the questions. The questions reference words in the text that can be used as context clues for the students. The clues are in bold and relate to the overall meaning of the unknown word in the text.

You may do the first question with your students as guided practice. Have them answer the remaining questions independently. Review with them when they are done.
