Teach Reading Skills with Rap!
Based on our Hip Hop History: Eras of Rap song, these activities will keep your students’ attention using song lyrics as reading passages while they practice a variety of reading skills! These activities are super easy to use and require no prep time so you can focus on teaching.
The song for these activities explores how four eras of rap music developed between the 1970s and the 2010s.
Students will learn about the distinct features of the eras of rap, what influenced them, and how they uniquely progressed throughout history in a kid-friendly and school-appropriate reading passage.
A Variety of Activities!
This bundle also includes a variety of reading activities such as a timeline activity, a sequencing graphic organizer activity, a text-structure writing activity with a word bank of transitional words, multiple-choice questions, and a “Turn and Talk” activity that challenges students to infer what the next era of rap or their favorite genre of music may be.
The activities also include a brief lesson on syllables and tips on how to count them in words, “How many syllables?” questions, “Syllable hunt!” questions, and “Divide the syllables” questions, as well as “Syllables on Beast Mode!” challenge activity where students will find a rare 5 syllable word in the song lyrics and write it correctly separated into its syllabic parts.
